RAUL SANTOS

My work is a reflection of my journey through color, material, and memory. Growing up in Miami, I was surrounded by vibrant Art Deco aesthetics and the ever-changing landscape of street art. Over the years, my relationship with color has evolved from a vibrant explosion of hues to a more intentional, refined palette. I now find strength and clarity in simplicity, echoing a sense of discipline in my practice.

Central to my artistic expression is a profound connection to wood. The tactile nature of wood evokes memories of childhood tree forts, where salvaged materials were transformed into imaginative spaces. These formative experiences instilled in me a sense of creativity and resourcefulness that continues to shape my work today. This medium is infinite in its possibilities, allowing me to explore a wide range of techniques, from furniture making to intricate carvings.

I approach my practice as a vessel for ideas—sometimes a specific color or form feels like a download, guiding my decisions rather than being purely personal preference. I embrace experimentation, whether it’s through ceramics, resin, or woodworking, treating each piece as a lyric in a larger narrative. My aim is to create functional art that resonates on both aesthetic and emotional levels, bridging the gap between street art and furniture design.

As I look to the future, I am eager to expand my skill set into sewing and metalwork, further integrating diverse materials into my practice. I believe in the power of DIY—crafting every aspect of a piece from the ground up. Ultimately, my work invites others to partake in a shared experience of beauty, memory, and the joy of creation, fostering connections that transcend the boundaries of art.

About

RAUL SANTOS

BIO

Raul Santos is a Cuban-American artist and designer born and raised in Miami, FL. His artistic journey began in Miami's vibrant graffiti scene, where he initially concentrated on letter writing. This focus evolved into a distinctive approach to abstract minimalism, with his bold lettering transforming into intricate sequences of elongated, precise lines marked by vivid colors and dynamic contrasts.

Today, Santos harnesses his deep understanding of color theory to create multidisciplinary works that resonate with their surroundings. Skilled in woodwork, ceramics, and epoxy resin furniture, Santos’ sculptures and functional designs capture Miami’s pulse—a city alive with neon signs, flowing waves, and brilliant skies. The visual energy of the city, coupled with the concept of claiming one's space from his graffiti origins, continues to inform and shape his art.

Santos’ work has been featured in galleries and mural festivals across the United States, including Baker-Hall in Miami and Pow Wow Hawaii. His site-specific creations engage with the unique history and culture of each community, abstracting these elements into evocative colors and exacting lines. Through his art, Santos crafts contemplative portals where color tells a story, offering a bridge between meditative and psychedelic experiences.
